During the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, SsangYong showed its SUT-1 concept. Now, at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, SsangYong unveiled the production version of the SUT-1.
SsangYong is quick to point out that this will not be a stripped-out bakkie, but a more luxurious version with several SUV-related features. This includes a rear view camera, leather seats, air-conditioning, a sunroof, electric driver seat and cruise control. Important safety features include dual front airbags, ESP (electronic stability control), ABS and Isofix child seat anchor points.
Powering both the rear-wheel-drive and the part-time four-wheel-drive models will be a 2,0-litre turbodiesel engine that develops 114 kW and 360 N.m. Transmission choices on both models will be a six-speed manual as well as a six-speed automatic.
Up front, the SUT-1 is equipped with double wishbone suspension and at the rear, carrying the load, is a five-link setup.
Depending on the drivetrain, SsangYong claims a combined fuel consumption of between 7,1 and 8,0 litres/100 km.
Pedro Pereira, the general manager for SsangYong in South Africa, confirmed that this model will be available middle 2012. No comfirmation on price or specification at this point.
