Porsche has just released its newest addition to the Panamera range, the Turbo S. The Panamera Turbo delivers an already healthy 368 kW and 700 N.m, but the Turbo S takes this up to 410 kW and 750 N.m. And, if the owner pushes the throttle to the floor, it will activate the overboost function that will increase torque to 800 N.m.
The sport chrono package will form part of the standard equipment on the Turbo S and will include launch control connected to the PDK transmission. The benefit of this will be an improved sprint time to 100 km/h in an impressive 3,8 seconds. Top speed is said to be 306 km/h.
Here at CAR magazine we achieved 3,91 seconds with the standard Turbo, so it should be interesting to see what we will be able to achieve with the S.
According to Porsche, the increase in performance can be attributed to two main changes. First of all the engine’s control unit has been changed and secondly the turbochargers has been enhanced. The turbine wheels are now constructed from a titanium-aluminium alloy that reduces the weight of both the turbine and the compressor wheel.
As before, the Panamera offers a host of safety and performance features. This include the Porsche dynamic chassis control (PDCC), Porsche torque vectoring plus (PTV Plus) as well as an electronically controlled rear differential lock.
In terms of exterior treatments, the Panamera receives a set of 20-inch Turbo II wheels, while at the rear the axle track width has been increased. The side skirts are from Porsche’s Exclusive department.
We also expect that the ceramic composite brakes, with its yellow brake callipers as seen on the above pictures, will be standard equipment with this high performance model.
Porsche South Africa confirmed with CAR that a final price hasn’t been finalised although first deliveries will start around July.
