In 2011 rally ace Mark Higgins set the – very brave – Isle of Man Tourist Trophy record for a production car in a Subaru WRX STI. This event is known for its crazy motorcycle road races, but the organisers have again made the circuit available for Subaru this year.
The 2011 record attempt was best known for Higgins’s “moment” when he nearly lost control of the car at over 200 km/h. However, this week, with an average speed of 187 km/h, Mark finished the 60 km course in 19 minutes and 26 seconds. That is a respectable 30 second reduction compared to his 2011 record of 19 minutes and 56 seconds.
It seems Higgins is confident that the latest WRX STI can actually achieve a better time, as he overshot his braking mark at one corner. We won’t hold that against him!
Unfortunately Subaru hasn’t released a video of the run yet, but we certainly hope there will be some footage shortly.
