Subaru have decided to pay homage to Petter Solberg, holder of the 2003 world rally drivers’ title, by releasing a special edition model in celebration of his feat.
A special edition Impreza WRX Sti, the WR1, was unveiled last week. It has been beefed up to produce a healthy 235kW while also sporting some new equipment.
For example, the Impreza WR1 will feature a driver-controlled centre differential (DCCD), operated via a switch mounted next to the handbrake. The device allows the torque distribution between front and rear wheels to be varied manually.
Externally, the new WR1 will be recognisable by new Ice Blue metallic paint as well as driving lamps, a stainless steel mesh grille and 18-inch alloy wheels. Interior changes include anthracite instead of blue suede-effect seats and a special gear knob.
