The near standard 1 000cc Superbikes set a new overall lap record on Saturday.
On their first trip to the coast, the superbikes seemed to relish the salty air, setting new lap records and exceeding 290 km/h on the back straight.
Following the Saturday morning qualifying session, local boys Rob Cragg (South Suzuki GSXR 1000 ) and Greg Dreyer (Autopage Cellular Yamaha
R1) shared the front row of the grid with Hudson Kennaugh (Cell C Suzuki GSXR 1000) and Shaun Whyte (First Technology Honda Fireblade).
Dreyer burst into the lead challenged by Whyte, Cragg Trevor Crookes (Cell C Suzuki) and Russell Wood (Autopage Cellular Yamaha R1).
Later in the race, Dreyer’s Yamaha started overheating and Crookes had to retire with electronic difficulties.
That left Hudson Kennaugh to win, narrowly ahead of Dreyer, Cragg and Wood.
The fifth, sixth and seventh places went to First Technology Honda Fireblade riders Shaun Whyte, Sheridan Morias and Arushen Moodley, ahead of Lance Isaacs on his works Ducati 999S.
The fiery pace proved to much for the Stewart MacLeod, who was nudged off his Ducati with the help of Alex Lenearts on his Honda. Clinton Pienaar (Arlen Ness Aprilia) developed overheating problems.
In the second race, Dreyer again blasted ahead established a substantial lead before outbraking himself. The hopeful Wood was forced to retire his Yamaha after overheating problems.
Hudson Kennaugh claimed his second victory of the day, followed by team mate Crookes, Cragg, Morias, Whyte and Moodley.
Again, Lance Isaacs headed up the Ducati attack in seventh place, just ahead of team mate Robert Portman.
Capetonian Gareth Agnew won both of the day’s Supersport 600 races on his Honda CBR F4, leading home Darryn Upton (Kreepy Krauly Yamaha R6).
