Suzuki Auto South Africa has revealed the full details and pricing of its eight model range in South Africa. The Splash has already been available overseas for a while, but now it has made its way to South Africa equipped with a 1,2-litre petrol engine (63 kW/113 N.m). This is the same unit as found in the larger Suzuki Swift hatchback, although the Splash will slot in between the Swift and Suzuki’s mini-hatcback, the Alto.
The dimension of the Splash (3 775 mm long, 1 680 mm wide and 1 620 mm tall) will ensure the car is easy to navigate in tight spaces (the car offers a claimed 9,4 metre turning circle), while the 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers won’t cost a fortune to repair if curbed. To maximise space, the rear bench can be folded down in the traditional 60:40 split.
Even though it is such a compact vehicle, it seems Suzuki has gone out of its way to offer as many storage compartments as possible. The GL model even offers an under-seat, slide-out tray to store valuables. Customers will be able to choose between both a five-speed manual gearbox as well as a four-speed automatic transmission.
Three models will be available: the five-speed GA, the five-speed GL and finally the four-speed automatic GL. Although both the GA and GL models come with dual airbags and ABS brakes, the GL does offer a few additional luxuries. These include – to name a few – front fog lamps, rear window wiper and washer, rev counter, a sound system with USB and AUX connectivity, electric windows and a tilt adjustable steering wheel.
Suzuki claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 12,3 seconds, and a top speed of 160 km/h. Fuel consumption is said to be 5,6 litres per 100 km.
The Splash comes with a 3-year/100 000 km warranty as well as a 2-year/30 000 km service plan. Service intervals are every 15 000 km.
