The charming little Suzuki Swift hatchback has gone under the knife to get subtle tweaks for the 2014 model year along with some extra bit of standard specification.
The most prominent of the the exterior updates are a redesigned grille and front bumper. The high-spec GLS model gets LED daytime running lights that frame the front foglamps, while the high-mounted third brake light at the back is now brighter than before. Wheel designs for both the GL and the GLS have been changed with the latter sporting 16-inch alloys. You won’t see these changes on the Sport model though. The Sport’s styling is unique in its own right, so Suzuki has left it largely untouched.
What the Sport, along with the GLS, does get, however, is the addition of Bluetooth functionality and cruise control. Standard features across the range includes power steering, air-conditioning (climate control on the GLS), an adjustable steering column (only height adjustment on the GL model), and electric windows. There is a USB connection and keyless entry in the GLS and Sport models. The upholstery across the range has been given an upgrade. Safety features include dual front airbags and ABS brakes on the entry-level model with side and curtain airbags being thrown in on the GLS and Sport. The latter model also comes equipped with electronic stability control.
The regular Swift makes use of a 70 kW 1,4-litre petrol unit that pushes out 130 N.m of torque. This is mated to a five-speed manual ‘box. The GLS is available with a four-speed auto. Fuel consumption is a claimed 5,5 litres/100 km for the manual and 6,2 litres for the self-shifting version. In the case of the Sport, there is a 1,6-litre unit with 100 kW and 160 N.m mated with a six-speed manual transmission.
