It’s official! The Koenigsegg CCR is the fastest production car in the world, after snipping just over one km/h off the McLaren F1’s 13-year record!
The Swedish-built supercar was recorded doing 388 km/h around the oval at recent tests at the Nardo race circuit in Italy. The car uses a 4,7-litre V8 powerplant capable of producing 601 kW and an astounding 920 N.m of torque. Nardo technicians independently verified the earth-shuddering speed record.
Under the guidance of Koenigsegg’s official test driver, Loris Bicocchi, the CCR broke the McLaren F1’s record of 386,6 km/h, also set at Nardo in 1993.
Bicocchi said: “This test was very important for the customers and owners of Koenigsegg cars. It proves that their belief and faith in the small Koenigsegg company was well-founded.”
According to company owner Christian von Koenigsegg is now more confident that the car from the can reach a top speed of 395 km/h or more, if tested in a straight line, rather than around an oval.
With its latest feat, the CCR has already surpassed the top speeds recorded by some of the most desirable cars – the Ferrari Enzo (355 km/h), Porsche Carrera GT (334 Km/h), McLaren Mercedes SLR (334 km/h) and the Lamborghini Murcielago (330 km/h).
