Last week saw the introduction of the new Fiat Panda Young. Following hot on its tracks is the new Fiat Punto 1,4 Essence.
Managing director of Fiat Group Automobiles South Africa, Oscar Rivoli, says that Fiat is determined to increase its presence in the passenger segment by bringing to market vehicles that are able to exceed customer expectations without compromising on critical safety features, “therefore bridging the gap between a rational and an emotive purchase.”
The Fiat 1,4-litre DOHC 16 V Fire petrol engine produces 66 kW and 115 N.m of torque. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes about 15 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 165 km/h. The Essence is mated with a five-speed manual transmission and has a claimed combined fuel consumption of 7,3 litres/100 km.
Standard features include 14-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, a height-adjustable multi-function leather steering wheel, Blue&Me telecommunication system with Bluetooth connectivity and SMS messages read out via voice command. A USB port, CD/MP3 player, remote central locking, automatic climate control and electric windows are also standard.
Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and follow-me-home headlamps. A seatbelt warning, fire-prevention system and automatic-check service system are also standard.
The Fiat Punto Essence comes with a three-year/100 000 km warranty and an optional three-year/60 000 km service plan, and costs R139 900.
