The E46-generation 3 Series was, at one point, the best-selling new vehicle in South Africa over a calendar month and, until recently, the dominant force in the domestic compact saloon market. Like its predecessor, the E90 will be the cornerstone of BMW South Africa’s fully built-up vehicle export programme, and, with its initial lineup of four models, looks set to thrive in what is currently regarded a buoyant new vehicle buyer’s market. However, does it represent a major improvement over the E46?
