The Opel Tigra, revealed at the Geneva Motor Show last week, has managed to scoop up one of the show's awards handed down by an international jury.

The jury, composed of 20 motoring journalists and experts, voted the Tigra TwinTop "Cabrio of the Year" for its retractable steel roof and intelligent concept.

The coupe-cabriolet is fitted with a two-tone electric-hydraulic metal roof with two sections that open and close automatically at the touch of button. Ample space is available with up to 500 litres of stowage on offer.

As shown in Geneva, the Tigra's power is provided by a 66 kW 1,4-litre ECOTEC engine that can be fitted with the sequential shift Easytronic box. A 93kW 1,8-litre ECOTEC engine with five-speed manual box will also be offered. Sales start in late summer 2004.

"We are very proud of this important award for the new Tigra. It is a fantastic compliment for the work and the creativity of our designers and engineers", said Carl-Peter Forster, Opel´s Chairman and Managing Director.
