The final round of the competition was held at the Johannesburg Technical College on January 25. The prizes were awarded the same evening at Caesar’s Palace in Gauteng. Auret won R15 000.
Second place (R12 000) went to Eugene le Roux of Pretoria, and third place (R8 000) to Michael Bates of Cape Town.
In the amateur section, Lee Bonney of Johannesburg came first, followed by Prem Naicker of Tongaat and Dave Garton of Kloof. They received the same amounts as the professionals.
The winners of the Bike SA magazine/Two Wheels TV programme “2002 Motorcycle Mechanic of the Year” competition, also sponsored by NGK spark plugs, were also announced at the event.
This competition was open to amateurs and professionals, and first prize of R15 000 was awarded to Douglas Joyce of Wilgeheuwel. Second prize of R12 000 went to Robert Matzdorff of Cape Town, while Mario Laurens of Pretoria collected the third prize of R8 000.
