The Volkswagen Touran and Renault Espace recently received the maximum five stars in Euro NCAP testing. It was the first time that the organisation rated vehicles for the level of protection offered to child occupants in accidents.
In NCAP, vehicles of all classes are tested for safety and crashworthiness. Also announced were the results for the first eight cars tested to the new child protection rating.
Max Mosley, Euro NCAP chairman and FIA president, said, “Euro NCAP’s latest tests are particularly significant because for the first time we give cars a specific rating for the protection given to children. We have taken this step to focus the attention of manufacturers and consumers on this vital aspect of road safety.”
The Ford C-MAX is the first car to be awarded four stars for protecting child passengers.
