Now in its 21st year, the annual Toy Run for charity will take place this Sunday, and 40 000 people are expected to attend at the many centres around the country.
The Toy Run, started in Cape Town and Johannesburg 21 years ago, has now spread to other cities and towns in the country. Anyone wishing to support and join in the activities, whether as participants or spectators, will need to have a toy or toys to gain entry to the end-point.
Local motorcycle clubs around the country will host the Toy Run, which is open to any licensed riders 16 and over, on licensed and roadworthy vehicles. The objective is for participants, passengers and spectators to donate toys that can then be distributed to hospitals and other organisations with limited funds for non-essential items like toys.
All routes will be marshalled and closely monitored by traffic officials and road closures will be implemented along the route. For safety reasons and considering the number of participants, riders are requested to ride two abreast at all times.
In Cape Town, the Toy Run will finish at Maynardville where participants and spectators will be entertained by live bands and stand-up comedians, and where they will be able to browse the food, accessory and motorcycle stalls, or unwind in the beer garden.
