As much as we would’ve liked to see a more powerful production Toyota 86, it seems you will have to head to the Japanese manufacturer’s motorsport department to fullfill that need.
Making its debut at next month’s ADAC Rally in Germany, the GT86 CS-R3 rally car will not compete at the ninth round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship, but will purely be a “pathfinder”, driven before all the cars at each stage.
This rally car is engineerd by Toyota Motorsport and will also be available for private customers.
The big question is, what modifications were done to the engine? All modifications were done according to the FIA R3 class regulations. This entitled changes to the software, cam-lift and compression ratio. The result is an increase in power to between 179 and 186 kW.
