Len Terblanche, managing director of LuK Africa, received the Supplier of the Year award from Toyota South Africa’s president and chief executive, Dr Johan Van Zyl, at a banquet held recently at Alpine Heath in the Drakensburg this week.
Chairman of Toyota SA Elisabeth Bradley paid tribute to all the Prospecton-based manufacturer’s suppliers and highlighted the four financial factors that South Africa monitored very closely: GDP, interest rates, exchange rates and inflation.
Bradley also forecast modest economic growth in South Africa this year and added that not many countries in the world could show positive growth patterns in the next 12 months.
In congratulating LuK Africa, Alan Holmwood, Toyota SA’s senior general manager of purchasing, said: “LuK Africa performed exceptionally during 2002 and we can say that they are truly a world-class operation”.
This is their third success as Supplier of the Year, their other wins having been in1994 and 1997.

The Toyota quality award went to Hesto Harnesses.
Earlier this month, Toyota paid tribute to Stephenson and Toyota’s Truck Dealer of the Year 2002, Kevin Usher of Pat Hinde Toyota Trucks in Boksburg.
Toyota also presented the following President’s Awards:
Marius de Bruin, of Barloworld Toyota in Kuils River, won the category for mega dealerships and Henk Venter of Oranje Toyota in Bloemfontein was the runner-up.
Marius Claassen, of Helderburg Toyota, Strand, won the category for large dealerships and Jack Riback, of Honeydew Toyota, was the runner-up.
Fanie Erasmus of Lydenburg Toyota won the category for medium dealerships and Ivan Hamman of Auto Ren Heidelberg was named runner-up.
Jimmy van der Linde of Van der Linde Motors won the category for small dealerships and Jannie Stevens, of ESS Toyota Christiana, was the runner-up.
