Toyota SA has adjusted the specification of its Corolla and RunX subcompact ranges by fitting added safety equipment to its more basic models.
ABS and dual front airbags will now be standard on all models in the range, a change in line with current market trends to provide added safety equipment to more model derivatives.
“This upgrade in specification is in accordance with changing customer demands,” said Johan van Zyl, president and chief executive of Toyota SA.
“We have found that the majority of customers expect front airbags and ABS in the specification, even at the lower end of the small car class, excluding the entry level models where price is still the key purchasing determinator rather than advanced specification.
“As vehicle price increases have stagnated and the cost of finance has decreased dramatically there has been a trend for buyers to add specification at the time of purchase and safety items are now a distinct market preference.”
The following derivatives are affected by the specification upgrade, and are also subjected to a price adjustment.
Corolla 140i R114 123
Corolla 140i (with Aircon) R118 803
Corolla 140i GLE R137 399
Corolla 160i GLE R152 775
Corolla 160i GLE (auto) R164 666
RunX 140 RT R137 879
The prices of the remaining models in the range have not been altered.
