The protester who ran on to the track dressed in a kilt and waving placards at Silverstone on Sunday, has been charged with aggravated trespass by police.
The 56-year-old ran up the track on the Hangar Straight as cars passed him doing speeds of about 200 km/h. He was tackled to the ground by a marshal and dragged off the track.
“We understand from the police that a 56-year old man has been arrested and charged with aggravated trespass,” said Silverstone spokesman Andrew Waller. “We, along with the MSA, have launched a full investigation, and we will be supporting that in every way we can.
“He will be interviewed later at Northampton police station. I don’t know how he got on.”
Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone said that he expected explanations as to how the man got on to the track. “It was probably not necessary – it was an exciting enough race without that,” he said. “The safety people will have a look at this, especially with regard to the security. You can’t stop when somebody wants to do those kind of things.”
