That means the Essen Show launch of the Vectra OPC
1,9 turbo-diesel concept could have ramifications for the South African market, especially after CARtoday.com reported on Wednesday that the two-litre turbocharged Astra OPC and – perhaps also the Zafira OPC – will be launched here next year.
The Vectra OPC features twin-turbochargers and the 1,9 CDTI ECOTEC diesel engine produces about 156 kW and reaches peak torque of more than 400 N.m at 1 400r/min. This allows the Vectra to sprint from zero to 100km/h in 6,5 seconds and requires only six litres of fuel per 100km, according to the European test cycle.
The top speed is governed electronically to 250km/h. The concept car shown in Essen featured the Arden blue typical of OPC products, a lowered body with aerodynamic accessories and 19-inch alloy wheels with 235/30 tyres. The interior is trimmed mostly in blue leather.
