Arrows driver Jos Verstappen has labelled Enrique Bernoldi as the worst teammate he has ever had.
Verstappen said he did not get on well with Bernoldi, who is in his first season of Formula One. “We talk to each other very little and I must say, he is the worst team mate I have had in Formula 1,” he said.
The Dutchman has asked Arrows to get rid of the Brazilian, who he believes is out of his depth. “I think he is a talented driver in qualifying but he is not so strong in the race and I think he’s struggling. He behaves confidently, but I think he is under pressure.”
The pair have managed to stay relatively equal in qualifying, but Bernoldi drew negative attention when he held up David Coulthard at the Monaco Grand Prix for about two-thirds of the race.
The Dutchman was supposed to have Pedro de la Rosa as his teammate this year, but he was replaced by Bernoldi at the last minute.
Verstappen will be driving for Arrows next year, but Bernoldi has not been confirmed yet. With the more experienced Dutchman expressing his dislike for his teammate, it is likely Bernoldi could be on the move.
“I am very clear on whether he should stay or not because I think there are better people for the team to get than him,” Verstappen said.
