Jacques Villeneuve, the former World Champion and ousted BAR driver, has approached McLaren requesting a possible role as test driver for the team.
Mclaren has confirmed that it has been approached by Villeneuve, but has stated that “no meaningful discussions have taken place”.
However, Craig Pollock, Villeneuve’s manager, is reported to have said that he is not in discussions with anyone regarding the driver’s future.
Its possible that the brief exchange between Villeneuve and McLaren may have taken place before the final Grand Prix in Suzuka earlier this month where Villeneuve was replaced by Takuma Sato after asking to be released from BAR.
Since missing the last race of the season, Villeneuve is resting and doesn’t appear to be in a hurry to make up his mind about his career. He will probably want to make a fresh start next year, focusing on race-winning opportunities after his disastrous season this year.
