[Volkswagen News] Having just given the Golf GTI the fire-breathing, once-off treatment for the Wörthersee fan meet, Volkswagen has now turned its attention to the Amarok to produce as 200 kW performance version of its popular pick-up.
The Volkswagen Amarok R-Style Concept features a 3,0-litre V6 TDI engine with 200 kW and a whopping 600 N.m of torque. This unit is coupled to the same 8-speed automatic transmission currently doing service in the range-topping production Amarok and will reportedly propel the R-Style from standstill to 100 km/h in 7,9 seconds.
Unlike the Vision GTI, the R-Style is unlikely to preview a production-spec high-performance model, but that doesn’t mean Volkswagen has skimped on the exterior add-ons. A deeper, vented front apron, more pronounced wheel arches accommodating 21-inch anthracite alloy wheels shod with 295/35 and a carbon-fibre rear diffuser with dual exhaust ports is among the highlights.
Volkswagen hasn’t restricted the firepower to the engine bay; the cabin plays host to an audio system packing a 500-Watt subwoofer. Other interior features include a carbon-fibre facia, bucket seats and a sports steering wheel. Like the exterior, the interior also features a GTI-inspired colour scheme replete with black and red piping.
