Computers, smart phones and vehicles are all merging into one. Volkswagen has showed its Golf R Touch concept vehicle at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, featuring innovative gesturing control. The vehicle is fitted with three display screens (12,8, 12,3 [instrument binnacle screen] and 8-inch respectively) replacing all the mechanical switches. The largest and smallest screens have touch capability and all screens are easily customisable for layout and colour. The latest innovation is the fitment of cameras linked to control computers that can interpret hand gestures to control certain functions in the vehicle. Watch out next time you want to swat a fly in the cabin though!
Other interesting technologies on show was MirrorLink that pairs with your smart phone to enable you to control your applications via the infotainment system, Intelligent Charge that automatically docks an electric vehicle to an inductive charging plate and Digital Key that allows you to replace your Volkswagen’s key with your smart phone.
