Volkswagen Germany has announced that they will be releasing a tweaked version of their Amarok pick-up. The German-based company has revealed that the so-called Ultimate will be very similar to the existing Amarok with the exception of a few minor cosmetic changes, chief amongst which are Bi-Xenon headlight beams and LED daytime running lights. The off-roader commercial vehicle sports other minor external changes such as silver mirrors, tinted taillights, chrome roll-over bar and underbody cladding that serves both decorative and protective functions.
As standard the Amarok Ultimate comes with luxuries that fly in the face of its rugged status. The ParkPilot system with rear assist camera and the electric, heated and folding wing mirrors ensure that a driver of any skill can parallel park the large and sometimes difficult-to-manoeuvre Amarok. Heated seats and Volkswagen’s ‘RNS-315’ navigation system top off the list of standard features now available on the Amarok Ultimate. The power-plant options remain limited to the 2,0 TDI engines used in the existing Amarok. All options are available across single and double cab variants of the Amarok.
Volkswagen Germany have also announced that “further engine variants for single or double-cab” will be available but have not yet released details about these new options. Unfortunately Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed that the Amarok Ultimate won’t be gracing South African shores, in addition to this no significant update is planned for the South African Amarok this year. Released in late 2011, the South African Amarok is yet to receive any updates, major or minor, and is suspected to be due a face-lift in 2015.
