Volkswagen has released initial details of a new Up! variant set to debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March.
The Volkswagen Cross Up! essentially takes the firm’s Up! city car and decks it out with more rugged, outdoorsy visual addenda. Among the exterior extras are the requisite black plastic cladding for the lower body, and a smattering of chrome-effect garnish on the bumpers and exterior mirrors.
Among this model’s interior highlights are chrome finishes for the air vents, model-specific floor mats and a mild revision to the facia.
The powertrain is identical to that of the standard Up! namely a three-cylinder petrol engine developing 55 kW mated with a five-speed manual gearbox.
Although Volkswagen’s initial release doesn’t make mention of any traction-aiding revisions to the Up! drivetrain, it’s fair to assume that this model’s only concessions to rough-roading are a set of 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 185/50 rubbers and what looks like a marginally raised ride height.
More details will emerge closer to the official Cross Up! unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
