Putting one of your big, heavy duty trucks up against one of the fastest supercars in the world might seem like someone in Sweden has been hitting the vodka a little too hard, but that’s exactly what Volvo Truck’s PR Director, Per Nilsson has decided to do.
The aim of this publicity stunt is to test their new I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox on a Volvo FH truck, one that Mr Nilssen says “… is the perfect challenge to see if our newly launched I-shift Dual Clutch gearbox lives up to expectations in terms of driveability and driving comfort that comes with seamless gear shifting.”
Driving the Volvo FH around the Ring Knutstorp in southern Sweden, a track known for its hills and sharp curves, is former racing driver and TV personality Tiff Needell.
I-Shift Dual Clutch is based on the same technology as that used in sports cars and is unique in heavy-duty serial- produced trucks. Thanks to power-shift gear changes, torque is maintained without any interruption in power delivery and the truck does not lose any speed during gear changes. For the driver, claims Volvo, the result is more comfortable and efficient progress on the road. I-Shift Dual Clutch was launched in June 2014 and serial production started in September.
