Yesterday VW debuted its all-new Global Rallycross contender in the shape of a new Beetle. The Bug is powered by a 1,6-litre turbocharged engine producing over 400 kW, which feeds power to all corners an will sprint from zero-to-96 km/h (60 mph) in a Bugatti Veyron-shaming 2,1 seconds.
VW are partnered with Andretti Autosports to contest the Red Bull Global Rallycross series. VW chose Tanner Foust and Scott Speed, to pilot the new racecars.
“These cars will pretty much do everything,” says Foust. In a racing series where the vehicles go from 0 to 60 in two seconds and corner like they’re on rails, the GRC Beetle will be “better than most supercars on the road.” Continues Tanner, “[A] Volkswagen checks all those boxes and that’s why it’s a great vehicle for this sport.”
