Volkswagen’s next generation of premier bakkie will break cover this week. Save the date and watch the Amarok global premiere on the 7th of July with us.
The Amarok may share a platform and underlying components with Ford but the newcomer is touted to be “unambiguously more expressive and once again appreciably more impressive.” Read about everything we know about the bakkie ahead of the Amarok global premiere here.
Mark Handley, Head of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles stated: “We are incredibly excited for the world and our customers to see the new Volkswagen Amarok when it officially breaks cover during its digital premiere on the Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge YouTube page this week.”
The launch will be taking place on the 7th of July at 10:00 local time and the link can be accessed here.
The Amarok range has been available in South Africa since the end of 2010 and has managed to sell an impressive 41 442 units in that time. The new Amarok was designed in Germany and Australia while production will take place in Silverton, Pretoria alongside the new Ford Ranger. The existing model will still be produced at Volkswagen’s Pacheco facility in Argentina for the foreseeable future.
Handley further added: “As Volkswagen South Africa, we are proud that the new Amarok will not only be built in our country, thus supporting the local economy, but at the end of the year we will also welcome motoring journalists from around the world for the Amarok global media launch to be hosted in South Africa.”
At the Amarok global premiere on Thursday we will get to see the unveiling of the newcomer which measures in at 5 350mm in length and 3 270mm wide. This is 96 mm and 173 larger than the outgoing generation which equates to more space than before. It will also include a towing capacity of 3,5 tonnes and can have 1,2 tonnes loaded up into the bin (depending on model and specification).
On the inside, the new Amarok will boast a digital cockpit and portrait infotainment system in either 10 or 12-inch sizes while the range will also come with over 30 driver assist systems which aid autonomous driving technologies.
