This 479 kW supercharged V8 Corvette repossessed from a Florida felon and repurposed as a police car isn’t one you’d consider running from, although the American state is synonymous with brazen lawbreakers.
The latest arbitrary story to emanate from the South Eastern most state of the US involves a Florida felon, a County Sheriff’s office and a C7 Corvette Z06. The Escambia County Sheriff, located on a coastal city in the Gulf of Mexico has recently added a repossessed Corvette Z06 to their police vehicle fleet. The muscle car “was seized from a felony suspect” and based on a controversial provision titled civil asset forfeiture; law enforcement are allowed to take property from a suspect without a conviction.
We are not sure what will happen if the suspected felon is acquitted but we can’t imagine he would be all too pleased to find his former pride and joy plastered with the department’s branding and lighting upgrade; both of which were funded by the Escambia County Sheriff Foundation. The red and blue police lights can be found scattered all around the car while the green and white wrap matches the uniforms of the officers who will be driving it.
Speaking of which, the department will reportedly only use the supercharged behemoth for community events which means it may not actually make its way out for patrols. With the current price of petrol, we don’t blame them. The decision has been repeated by other departments before, both in the USA and around the world too.
If it did however make it out onto the road, any suspects considering breaking the law wouldn’t have an easy time of evading it either. A standard C7 Corvette Z06 comes with 479 kW and 881 N.m of torque which the 6,2-litre V8 sends exclusively to the rear wheels. Its top speed of 329 km/h also means that it would likely be able to catch anything it would want to outrun too.
