The Prancing Horse have become the latest team to break the cover of their new Ferrari LMH car in Fiorano and it is going to have an enormous rear wing, hopefully to place some of the competition trophies it will be challenging for!
Endurance car racing is going to be exciting in 2023 with the influx of several new manufacturers. Porsche revealed their 963 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Peugeot 9X8 has been muse in some artistic photoshoots.
The Maranello based manufacturer on the other hand have gotten straight down to business with their new Ferrari LMH car as it was teased in a light-painting style photo with the Italian flag above before it took to the Pista di Fiorano at the manufacturers facilities for a shakedown.
Video footage courtesy of Varryx shows the model strutting its stuff on the hot summer’s day and its large double rear wing with three connecting points is hard to miss. It looks rapid at the hands of Ferrari factory driver Alessandro Pier Guidi with all of its four-wheel-drive hybrid glory demonstrating some of its potential. We can’t help but think it would look even better, shimmering in a shade of blood red.
Considering Ferrari have been absent from sportscar racing as a factory team for the past 50 years, Ferrari sportscar boss Antonello Coletta had this to say: “This is a very exciting moment, eagerly awaited both by the people who worked on this project and Ferrari fans. We are proud of what we have achieved, and although the LMH’s masking during testing hides the car’s volumes and styling, I think it is undeniably recognisable as a Ferrari.”
In addition to Pier Guidi and his duties at Fiorano, the new Ferrari LMH will be tested by the likes of Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco and James Calado too. It’s not too long until the 2023 WEC season gets underway and the undisturbed Toyota dominance could possibly be upstaged.
