That one-hour car wash on Sunday morning may remove most of the visible grime and dirt from the exterior of your vehicle but that may not be good enough when you own one of the greatest cars of all time. Watch as Tim McNair of Grand Prix Concours pedantically details a white McLaren F1.
American classic vehicle insurance company Hagerty is no stranger to producing quality automotive YouTube content to be consumed by enthusiasts on a weekly basis. A new series titled ‘Beyond the Details’ is just that and as the name insinuates, takes a look beyond the superficial and delves into the fine art of automotive detailing.
Their first episode features Tim McNair of Grand Prix Concours as host as he unconcernedly takes viewers of the video through a pedantic detail of a white McLaren F1 in the series premier. Tim makes use of a spectrum of tools to remove dirt and grime collected over years of use with a particular focus on the wheel wells and bare carbon fibre interior.
While the white McLaren F1 may look pristine from a distance, the finer details are taken from “clean”, to fastidiously clean. Included in the process is dry ice blasting which removes the majority of gunked up dirt in hard to reach places by shooting pressurised pellets of Carbon dioxide into the targeted areas without damaging paint or bodywork.
Elbow grease is the order for the rest of the detail as Tim uses an arsenal of specialised tools to continue the detail in the pursuit of a concours condition vehicle.
It will be hard to find a car as special as the White Mclaren F1 which appears here but the rest of the series will follow Tim as he travels America performing the same level of concours detailing to some of the rarest, most expensive and exclusive vehicles.
