Automotive theft countermeasures exist in their numbers, some weird and some wonderful but a New Orleans man has created his own with a rigged stun grenade to his truck. It looks like the deterrent worked after an attempted thief is seen scurrying off in sheer terror after detonating the device.
Unfortunately this was all after the thief, who is seen exiting what seems to be a Chevrolet Cruze sedan moves towards the white truck and shatters the driver’s side window, subsequently hurling himself through the fragmented glass and into the cabin. In a comical display with his feet dangling from the side of the vehicle, a white flash goes off and has the bandit wriggling himself free and scampering back into the getaway vehicle from once he came.
It is safe to say that he got far more than what he had bargained for in his attempt to salvage anything valuable from the cabin of the truck. Stun grenades, better known as their literal definition of Flashbang, are used by military and special police forces. While they are not intended to be a lethal means of conflict, the detonating force is known to have left people close to its exploding radius wounded, sometimes critically or even dead.
Considering the proximity the burglar was to the explosion, he may have even escaped with his life! New Orleans police have subsequently made flashbangs inadvisable as crime deterrents against criminals, burglars or anyone that fills the spectrum in between. Representatives from the local police force stated: “While we understand the frustrations our citizens have with crime, rigging an explosive device to detonate inside a vehicle is illegal and a bad idea.”
This is obviously not the first break-in the owner of the truck has experienced and we are not sure whether to be terrified of his booby-trap expertise or impressed by his attentiveness and bravery for having a live explosive in his vehicle.
