Killarney was the scene of some celebration during the eighth and penultimate round of the Wesbank Super Series as a few championships were settled at the weekend, while others will be decided at the season finale at Kyalami in Gauteng.
Both class titles (A and T) in the Bridgestone Production Car championship were scooped up by Michael Stephen (Xtreme Team Audi S4) and Graeme Nathan (IndyOil/Kaye Eddie VW Golf), respectively. Stephen’s two second-place finishes and feature race win wrapped up the Class A title, while Graeme Nathan’s championship rival Gary Formato (Castrol Ford Focus) put in a formidable performance to win two races, but lost out to dragging the battle to Kyalami by just a point.
Jayde Kruger (GF Plastics/First Freight FVW) claimed the Formula VW championship, with his main rival Simon Moss also just missing out on taking the championship decider to Gauteng. Kruger managed two wins to clinch the title, with Moss in second for both races.
In the two wheeled category, both the Superbike and Supersport championships were settled when Greg Gildenhuys (Motorrad BMW), and Clint Seller (Bikefin Honda) both put in two wins each to clinch their respective formulae.
Titles to be decided at Kyalami next month include the Engen VW Cup, the GT1 class of the V8 Supercars championship, the Shelby CanAm series, and the Midas Formula 1600 championship.
The final round of the Wesbank Super Series happens on 27 October at Kyalami.
