Team McLaren’s test driver Alexander Wurz looks on the verge of joining Jaguar next year to drive alongside Mark Webber.
Justin Wilson and Nick Heidfeld, the other drivers lined up for the position, are both available without any restrictions, while Wurz is current test driver at McLaren.
Wurz, who has been at McLaren since 2001, is tipped as the favourite for the spot, especially since he was considered to replace Pizzonia earlier this year before talks broke down.
A contractual problem put an end to the talks mainly because Ron Dennis wanted heavy monetary compensation for him. The same situation may happen once again, unless Wurz now has a special clause in his contract that enables him to leave under specific circumstances.
"I'm in a good position at the moment, with two teams that are interested in me," said Wurz to the .
"That's not the worst thing that can happen to someone. I am at the top of the list at Jaguar and of course McLaren absolutely want me to stay after my test performance last year."
Jaguar have mentioned that they would not make an announcement concerning their second driver before the end of November.
