In the SUV land of limited editions, Nissan’s X-Trail range has been strengthened by the arrival of the 2,5-litre Outdoor Edition, packed with useful extras.

Aimed at the younger and more active SUV buyer, this X-Trail is fitted with accessories to complement its owner’s lifestyle and vehicular needs.

At R270 500, the Outdoor is fitted with a Towmaster tow bar and Thule roof bars with which to lug jet skis, mountain bikes, surf boards and all sorts of paraphernalia associated with the action-oriented buyer.

On the inside, the seats are finished in stone and charcoal two-tone Takla seat covers with pockets. The seat covers are made from military-spec synthetic fabric that is durable, waterproof and hardwearing.

Also included in the package is a Garmin hand-held GPS unit ideal for use when venturing off the beaten track. Designed for land, marine and aviation use, the unit has a battery life of up to 30 hours.

Lightweight and waterproof, it has a 256-colour reflective display for easy viewing in most lighting conditions. Added features include automatic route calculation, an integrated outdoor calendar and a dedicated geo-caching mode.

Based on Nissan’s entry-level 4X4 offering (usually R265 990), the Outdoor is powered by a 2,5-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 132 kW at 6 000 r/min and 245 N.m of torque at 4 000 r/min. Drive is via a five-speed manual transmission.
