Xtreme X6s xpected

The BMW X6 has been a controversial vehicle, perhaps because of its SUV/Coupe identity crisis styling cues, or because BMW has again created its own class of vehicle. Nevertheless, tuners have been scrambling to prove to get their hand on the SAV to prove dominance of the aftermarket industry.

The cream of German BMW specialists have already released rendering and photographs of their creations, including Lumma, Hamann and Hartge, but AC Schnitzer is the first to actually roll out an X6 with aerodynamic enhancements and a bodykit.

AC Schnitzer’s aero kit includes a new front bumper with diagonal air intakes and repositioned fog lights, plus a larger rear bumper endowed with a central diffuser section and integrated exhaust exit openings. In order to put on the impression of the X6 being closer to the ground than it actually is, AC Schnitzer’s exterior designers opted for a colour-coded body. The 22-inch wheels are AC Schnitzer’s new Type II multi-piece alloys, and are painted black in the centre for added effect

Unfortunately, Hartge was first out of the starting blocks when it came to increased performance under the bonnet. Engineers developed a new ECU for the 3,0-litre diesel engines, which unleashes an extra 40 hp from the 3,0 diesel, and 42 hp from the twin-turbo variant. Like AC Schnitzer, Hartge fitted the X6 with 22-inch wheels, but apart from Hartge emblems for the bonnet and tailgate and carbon side mirror housings, the exterior was left untouched.

Hamann also had a go at the X6, but the fruits of its efforts thus far are only a set of rims (probably 22-inch) and a lowered suspension. Speaking of suspension, it is believed AC Schnitzer has developed a new suspension system for the X6 on the Nurburgring – though this remains to be seen.
