From the Gymkhana series to their Burnyard escapades, Hooonigan represents the untamed automotive desires every petrol head has. Now they’ve kicked it up a notch with their newest venture, a restomod 911 codenamed the “Hoonipigasus”
Hoonigan is known for its outrageous and exciting projects/content. The team is composed of a bunch of rowdy and slightly uninhibited people who have a history of creating some of the most high-octane automotive content available, and this is one example that blows everything else out of the water. The Hoonipigasus -pronounced Hoonipegasus- is the team’s new track weapon of choice for the teams for the 100th anniversary run of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This car was born as a result of the collaboration between Hoonigan and BBI Autosport.
“It doesn’t get any more mental from a tech, power, aero, and visual standpoint. The original vision of the car came from a longtime friend of mine, Joe Scarbo of Scarbo Performance, nearly a decade ago. We then teamed up with our most talented engineers and designers, threw the book out, and took an unconventional path. We are building the world’s nastiest 911.”- BBI Autosport founder, Betim Berisha.
The car’s color takes inspiration from Porsche’s Le Mans legend, the “Pink Pig” Its stunning livery was designed by affluent designer and artist, Trevor Andrew also known as, Gucci Ghost. “When Ken and the team at Hoonigan called, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to team up to create something unique and memorable,” said Andrew. Alongside the design of the Hoonipigasus livery was the Block’s i20 WRC. The “Hoonipig” is a mid-engine all-wheel-drive 1043kW hill-climb monster that weighs only 1000kg. The mid-mounted engine resembles the motor found in the 2016 911 GT3 R that has received an extensive amount of modifications and tweaks to elements of the engine from the pistons to the crankshaft. The engine itself is a 4,0-litre flat-six motor outfitted with two turbochargers. Fun fact, the turbos in the Hoonipigasus are the largest turbochargers Garrett’s motorsport division produces.
The team engineers have mentioned that the lowest amount of power the car will produce is around 596kW to the mind-blowing 1043kW. Overwhelming brute force is never the way to tackle one of the most intimidating hill climb roads in America. The car has two mechanically locked differentials (one on at the front and one in the back) that receive a 50/50 split of the power and some serious aero to help it stay planted to the ground through the harshest corners.
Ken Block and the Hoonigan team are determined to enter the 100th-anniversary event at Pikes Peak and walk away with an overall victory.
