2021 World Car Awards finalists (across five categories) announced…

The organisers of the 2021 World Car Awards have announced the finalists in the competition’s five categories.

The jury of 93 “distinguished” international automotive journalists selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as “part of their professional work”.

So, let’s take a look at the 2021 World Car of the Year finalists, whittled down to ten from an initial list of 24 contenders. The Audi A3 Sportback, BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, BMW 4 Series Coupé, Honda e, Kia K5/Optima, Kia Sorento, Mazda MX-30, Mercedes-Benz GLA, Toyota Yaris and Volkswagen ID.4 are all in the running for the title.

The Honda Jazz, Honda e, Hyundai i10/Grand i10, Hyundai i20 and Toyota Yaris, meanwhile, will fight it out for the 2021 World Urban Car award.

The 2021 World Luxury Car finalists are the Aston Martin DBX, BMW X6, Land Rover Defender, Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Polestar 2, while the 2021 World Performance Car winner will be one of the Audi RS Q8, BMW M2 CS, BMW X5 M/X6 M, Porsche 911 Turbo and Toyota GR Yaris.

All cars competing in these four categories are eligible for the 2021 World Car Design of the Year award, with a design panel selecting the following five as finalists: the Honda e, Land Rover Defender, Mazda MX-30, Polestar 2 and Porsche 911 Turbo.

On 30 March 2021, the top three finalists will be announced, with the winners scheduled to be declared on 20 April 2021.
