Kia’s 2022 Carnival is finally in SA and we have pricing!
Kia’s snazzy new 2022 Carnival picks up where the Grand Sedona left off, offering an edgy new design, new ‘Smartstream’ engine and driver assistance systems, too.
It would seem as though fewer and fewer luxurious people movers are seen on the roads these days as traditional buyers gravitate towards three-row SUV’s for their people-moving requirements. The all-new Kia Carnival makes a compelling case with its bold design which bears resemblance to the brand new Sorento, Seltos and Sonet SUV’s from the Korean marque.
Powered by Kia’s new 2,2-litre ‘Smartstream’ CRDi turbodiesel engine, the 2022 Carnival promises effortless sojourning with its 1,5-tonne towing capacity and raft of standard Driver Assistance and safety systems. The efficient new motor offers 148 kW at 3 800 r/min and a torquey 440 N.m from just 1 750 r/min. Kia’s 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission does duty here, offering smooth and pleasant shifting whether towing a big load or pootling to and fro.
Gary Scott, CEO of Kia South Africa commented, “The Kia Carnival is here to disrupt a staid segment and proves once again what is possible when conventions are shattered,”
With its SUV-like character, Carnival delivers a combination of premium design and features, intelligent packaging, and an abundance of innovation in safety and technology at a price that packs a value punch.”
High-tech LED headlamps, Kia’s distinctive ‘tiger nose’, as well as beefy wheel arches and crisp lines give the 2022 Carnival a striking and modern appearance unique to its decidedly traditional segment.
The cabin features high-gloss black surfaces, and a signature chrome garnish which runs the length of the dashboard, creating a sense of width and spaciousness. Two-tone leather trim has been well thought out, offering darker materials on the seats and a lighter shade on less frequently touched surfaces. Depending on the trim level chosen, the 2022 Carnival’s interior offers ample space for either 7 or 8 passengers, as well as their impedimenta with a voluminous 1 139-litres of luggage space with all seats in the erect position.
The second row can be removed and the third row stowed flush with the floor, allowing for a cavernous 4 110-litres of space for all manner of objects. On EX+ models, loading that space is a veritable walk in the park thanks to a Smart Power Liftgate wit auto-close, as well as the standard hands-free electric sliding side doors with Smart Key.
Stronger and quieter than the model which it replaces, the 2022 Carnival is built on the same innovative architecture as the Sorento – the third-generation ‘N3’ platform. Despite being 40mm longer, 10mm wider and 35mm higher than the outgoing Grand Sedona, the Carnival is only 14kg heavier than its predecessor.
Four specification levels are on offer with the entry level EX model featuring;
