Since 1972, Porsche Design has stood as the epitome of timeless design, their accessories and clothing complementing Porsche models right from early 911’s to the current 992 generation of the legendary sports car. Need your kettle to match your car? Porsche Design will help you out…
Limited to just 750 units, the Porsche 911 Edition 50 years Porsche Design (and breathe) is based on a 911 Targa 4 GTS (992) and is built to commemorate Porsche Design’s golden jubilee. Alongside it, a 1972 911 S 2.4 Targa is unveiled following restoration by Porsche Classic.
Recalling the legendary Chronograph I designed by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in 1972, both vehicles are finished in a similar colour scheme – mostly black with the Targa Bar finished in Platinum Satin, the same finish as the Porsche Design logos on the doors, and a “50 Years Porsche Design” badge on the engine bay grille. 20-inch front and 21-inch rear 991 Turbo S wheels are of the centre-locking variety, behind which are a set of high-gloss black brake callipers.
Cool Grey Sport-Tex and Black upholstery dominate the interior with the chequered pattern reminiscent of the legendary Pasha chequerboard velour found in Porsche models of yore. a 50 Years Porsche Design logo features on the headrests and a Slate Grey centre marker on the GT Sport steering wheel breaks the black up a little. Each vehicle is numbered with a silver, numbered dashboard plaque signifying the model’s importance, as well as its position in the limited production run. The signature of Porsche Design founder, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, features on the centre console lid as a final reminder of the significance of each vehicle.
In addition to the visual changes, features that are not usually available as standard on the Targa 4 GTS are standard fitment, including the 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats Plus, Sport Chrono Package with a Porsche Design Subsecond Clock with red second hand, and seatbelts in Slate Grey. Power still comes from the beefy 3,0-litre twin-turbo flat-six mill offering 352 kW and 569 N.m of torque. Transmission options are either an eight-speed PDK transmission or a seven-speed manual if you’re the sort of person who likes three pedals.
To mark the 50th anniversary, Porsche Design is launching two new timepieces in honour of the all-black Chronograph 1, their first-ever product. The Chronograph 1 – 911 50 Years of Porsche Design and the Chronograph 1 -1972 Limited Edition, with the latter coming part and parcel with each of the 750 991 Targa 4 GTS units. The Chronograph 1 -1972 Limited Edition will be limited to just 500 units and will be identical to the original in both size and design, as well as the historic Porsche Design logo and lettering.
Pricing for the 911 Edition 50Y Porsche Design is R2 949 000 which includes a 3 year/100 000 Driveplan and a nice watch.
