The Toyota Hilux is consistently South Africa’s best selling vehicle, averaging over 3,000 units per month nationally. Some have tinkered with their own bakkies making weird and wonderful creations but a latest rendering of a lowered 6×6 Toyota Lo-Lux is oddly appealing.
If this is the most repulsive image that detracts from the utilitarian nature of bakkies, fear not, since this is purely a digital CGI by 19 year old Vishnu Suresh, better known on instagram as Zephyr Designz. In some of the self taught concept artist’s most recent work, a Toyota Hilux double cab bakkie was taken and converted into a lowered, widebody 6×6 Toyota Lo-Lux.
The project includes a custom widebody kit, fully redesigned front and rear bumpers with an adjustable front splitter and bespoke side skirts. The digital creation is sitting on 6 deep-dish Vossen ERA 2 rims wrapped in Toyo R888R rubber. Of course the load bin would have had to virtually go under the knife to accommodate the extra axle and set of wheels which expectedly lengthen the overall dimension of the model. 
The hyperreal renderings which could easily be confused for reality are a practical way for coachbuilders and tuners to visually represent their ideas in a three-dimensional format before physically touching any bodywork. THE KYZA is one of few digital artists, for now, to have had his virtual work commissioned for conversion into reality. As this profession becomes more recognized, we can expect bespoke creations like this to be pursued by individuals with vision, passion and most importantly, budget.
Closer to home and erm, reality, a local Toyota Hilux has been converted into an AMG powered, track devouring behemoth. Powered by a 6.2-litre AMG motor and gearbox with slick tyres and a lower stance, it may not win any Dakar rally stages but the sound of it alone surely turns heads. If there isn’t a Hilux out there for everyone, these are proof that you can build your own.
