Could the new Volvo S80 Executive be the most luxurious car ever seen in South Africa? It features Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE), which comprises a DVD player and rearward-facing TV screen and even has an integrated fridge in the rear.
Volvo SA describes the new S80 Executive as “a car for truly discerning customers, those with demands and expectations beyond the ordinary”.
Based on the standard model of the Volvo S80, the Executive features a number of special modifications designed to enhance comfort, particularly for the three passengers in the rear seat.
A newly developed system for Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE), features a DVD player and rearward-facing TV screen integrated into the centre console. Furthermore, the Executive is equipped with leather upholstery, walnut trim panels, colour-coded exterior and unique options such as an integrated refrigerator.
In order to create more legroom, the rear seat has been moved slightly rearwards. In addition, the luxurious twin rear seats are electrically heated, there is an electrically powered sunblind and a 12-volt socket. Wider door openings ensure more comfortable entry and exit, Volvo SA claims.
Volvo’s spin on the concept of multimedia
The RSE system features a DVD unit with two seven-inch screens built into the backs of the front head restraints, with dual wireless IR headphones and a remote control.
The TV screens operate independently of each other, allowing each rear seat occupant to watch TV individually, use the DVD player or connect an external unit such as a computer or electronic games console. The sound system is very impressive too… The Executive features the upgraded HU 801 radio, featuring a four-disc front load CD player and stereo system with Dolby pro-logic sound surround and a 4 x 50W amplifier.
Interior for the connoisseur
“The Executive has walnut interior trim panels, leather upholstery and leather-trimmed steering wheel which can be specified with or without walnut inlays. The rear seat is supplemented with a built-in refrigerator and a compartment for four glasses in the rear hatshelf,” says Volvo SA.
There is also an integrated phone that is complemented by an Eriksson R320 handset. This makes it possible to have a mobile phone on hand whilst out of the car, and a handset while travelling.
The S80 Executive be available on special order for R430 000, the price includes a five year/100 000 km Volvo maintenance plan.
