It’s believed that BMW plans to introduce a range-topping model developed by the M division to cap the 2 Series range. That’s right, the M2 is on its way.
According to Leftlanenews, the Bavarian brand will launch the M2 in two years’ time. But just like the 1M, which boasted aggressive looks, the M2 will feature bulging wheelarches and beefed-up skirts, wear fat rubber around its alloy wheels and sport quad exhaust tailpipes.
Apparently, technology used for the M3/M4 siblings will also benefit the M2, such as the use of lightweight materials to keep its overall mass to a minimum. The interior will be driver focused, as is typical of the brand, with a thick-rimmed steering wheel and sports seats with big bolsters.
Under the bonnet, expect an updated version of BMW’s turbocharged inline-six. The M2’s twin-turbo motor could produce in the region of 280 kW and, paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission or six-speed manual gearbox, be capable of a zero to 100 km/h sprint that’s just over the four-second mark.
