Continental ContiSportContact 5P

By: Peter Palm

It’s not just engine and gearbox technology that keeps getting more and more sophisticated. It’s happening with tyre development too. Continental has just launched an upgraded desing using its ContiSportContact 3 as a base. It offers improved performance, from dry and wet braking, aquaplaning, noise levels, lower wear rate and rolling resistance. The new tyre is called the ContSportContact 5P.
Balancing a ribbed tread pattern (for better straight line acceleration and braking) with a block pattern (for better cornering adhesion) is the trick to getting the mix right. The P stands for performance and the tyre has been developed with car manufacturers including Audi’s RS stable. In case you are wondering what happened to “4” it is considered an unlucky number in the east.
The ContiSportContact is available in 18-inch, 19-inch, 20-inch and 21-inch. The widest section available is a 305/25 ZR 20 !
