Mitsubishi’s next Outlander will be shown in concept form at September’s Paris Motor Show, adding some pizzaz to the small SUV segment, and showing its old rivals a thing or two.
The current Outlander has been available here since last year, but the Paris unveiling will showcase the European specification model, and the manufacturer’s new global C-segment platform.
The concept is 4,64 metres long, and makes a visual statement with sleek metallic red paintwork with chrome add-ons.
Not quite as rugged as big brother Pajero, the Outlander will still be fitted with Mitsubishi’s All Wheel Control system that allows for a four-wheel drive while maintaining car-like comfort levels, Mitsubishi Motor Company said.
The SUV has a third row of concealed seats for 5+2 accommodation and a second row of seats that automatically folds forward. A split tailgate offers easy access to the rear load space.
Power is provided by a Volkswagen-sourced 2,0-litre turbodiesel mated with a six-speed manual gearbox to produce an estimated 103 kW of power.
The production version of the Outlander will go on sale in European markets in the first half of 2007.
