The compact G-Class, also colloquially referred to as the “Mini G” or “Baby-G,” is expected to hit the market in 2026. While the official name is still under wraps, it’s clear that this vehicle aims to capture the essence of the beloved G-Class, an SUV renowned for its timeless design and off-road capabilities, in a condensed package. Though Mercedes-Benz has yet to release detailed design sketches, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the Mini G will preserve the rugged and boxy appearance that defines the original G-Class. The compact size, reminiscent of the new 5 door Suzuki Jimny, is well-suited for various adventures.

This downsized version of the G-Class is set to inherit the off-road prowess that has made its larger sibling legendary. All-wheel drive will be a standard feature, ensuring it lives up to its off-road heritage. One of the significant shifts in this Mini G is its drivetrain. The compact G-Class is slated to be fully electric, a move in line with the growing trend toward electrification. While the 2026 launch date is not set in stone, it is a bold step into the future.
The introduction of a more compact G-Class opens up possibilities for a broader audience too. Its price point is logically expected to be more affordable than the standard G-Class, which typically occupies the highest tier in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. Nevertheless, it’s unlikely to fall into the lowest price range within the brand’s offerings.

The Mini G will be built on the MMA platform, known for accommodating both electric and conventional powertrains. This platform boasts fast-charging capabilities, a generous driving range of approximately 500 km and diverse drivetrain options, making it a fitting choice for this compact off-roader. The evolution of the G-Class is one to watch, with the Mini G embracing the past while driving toward a greener, more accessible future.
