Volvo’s revised S60 sports saloon will be available from the third quarter of 2006, with changes including a stiffer chassis and enhanced interior touches. A tweaked turbodiesel powerplant will also be added to the range.

“We’re making the S60 sportier in every respect,” said Gerry Keaney, Volvo’s senior vice president of marketing, sales and customer service. “We’ve fine-tuned the chassis to create greater driver appeal and subtly spiced up the design,” he continued.

Volvo’s Four-C chassis, using the Continuously Controlled Chassis Concept previously reserved for the high-performance S60 R, will be optional across the updated range.

Exterior changes now include a lower front spoiler, a larger grille, door mirrors incorporating the side indicators and optional pivoting bi-xenon lights.

The cabin area has been spruced up with the addition of satin chrome accents on the air vents, switches and dashboard. The revised mid-sized saloon gets a new sports steering wheel too, with perforated leather and chrome accents to match the hand brake and gear knob, also finished in perforated leather.

A Volvo SA representative said, “Expect to see the entire rejuvenated S60 range at dealers in July. The prices will remain unchanged.”

According to the Volvo source, these “changes aren’t big enough to deter people” from buying the turbodiesel S60 that will be included in the line-up, ahead of the revised models, at the end of May.

The turbodiesel model is powered by an upgraded 2,4-litre engine with its power output increased from 120 kW to 136 kW and a torque figure up from 340 to 400 N.m. The turbodiesel will also form part of the revised range’s roll-out in July.
