The legendary Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTAm is headed to our South African shores. Only 500 cars are being built by Alfa Romeo.
According to Quickpic, the order books are already open and future owners will not only be getting a sporty, performance car, but also a variety of experiences and a package of accessories.
The acronym GTA stands for “Gran Turismo Alleggerita” (alleggerita is the Italian term for lightened), and is originated in 1965 with the Giulia Sprint GTA, a model based on the Giulia Sprint GT.
For the new Giulia GTA, Alfa Romeo engineers have improved aerodynamics and handling, as well as reduced the weight. The model has a titanium AkrapoviÄ central exhaust system that is integrated in the carbon fibre rear. The GTA boasts 20-inch centre lock wheels that appears for the first time on a sedan.
High-speed handling has been improved too with front and rear wheel tracks increased by 50mm and new sets of springs, shock absorbers and bushings for the suspension.
The GTAm has an aerodynamic front with a larger front splitter and carbon rear wing, ensuring a perfectly balanced load for high speeds. A 2.9 V6 Bi-Turbo powers this derivative delivering a total output of 375 kW, while the Guilia GTA reaches a total of 390 kW.
The total weight reduction amounts to 100kg, thanks to lightweight materials used such as carbon fibre for the driveshaft, hood, roof, front bumper, front and rear wheel arches. Further lightweight aluminium features is used in the engine, doors and suspension system.
Alfa Romeo offered the 156 GTA and 147 GTA on showroom floors, both powered by a 184kW 3.2-litre V6 engine with six-speed manual gearboxes.
