A fresh report out of Italy claims Alfa Romeo will end production of its Giulietta hatchback in the second quarter of 2020.
According to Club Alfa, the C-segment hatch is preparing to exit the market, with no direct successor planned. Initially, production will reportedly be cut from 70 to 40 units a day, says the publication. The report claims the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles factory in Cassino will instead turn its focus to Maserati’s upcoming sub-Levante SUV, while continuing to build the Giulia and Stelvio.
Club Alfa furthermore suggests the Italian brand will expand its SUV offering below the Stelvio, with the Tonale and one other crossover on the cards.
Demand for the Giulietta in Europe has dropped, while the hatch routinely finds itself on our list of South Africa’s worst-selling passenger vehicles.
Of course, late in 2019, the PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles signed a “binding combination agreement” providing for a 50/50 merger of their businesses.
