June 2015. That is when the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio first made waves in the segment dominated by high-performance but comparatively mundane German rivals. Fast forward to the beginning of 2023, and an almost unchanged model has been named Best Performance Car for Thrills.

More impressively, this is the second year in a row that the Italian super-sedan has won this coveted title, beating the likes of BMW and Porsche.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio has been named ‘Best Performance Car for Thrills’ at the 2023 What Car? Car of the Year Awards for the second consecutive year. Since its launch almost 8 years ago, the Italian model to sport the four-leaf clover on its side has proven its mettle in terms of technology and performance in the highly competitive segment. Paired with a sonorous Ferrari-derived V6 and looks to die for, it became an instant hit for buyers seeking the exclusivity of driving an Alfa Romeo coupled with the rich heritage of performance vehicles the marque has to offer.
Steve Huntingford, Editor at What Car?, praised the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio: “While some performance cars try to straddle the middle ground between performance, running costs and practicality, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio unashamedly goes after one thing more than anything else: smiles per mile. A big part of its appeal is its storming 2,9-litre V6 petrol engine, which provides an intoxicating soundtrack, especially in Race mode. And the Quadrifoglio’s handling is even more special, with astonishing agility and a delightful natural balance that allows you to explore its limits with confidence.”
We had very similar remarks from our time behind the wheel of the Giulia Quadrifoglio, read more here.
What’s more, 2023 is the centenary of the iconic Quadrifoglio (green, four-leaf clover) badge that first appeared at the 14th edition of the Targa Florio. Watch the embedded Stellantis video of the history of the romantic story of the badge reserved exclusively for high-performance models.
With future Alfa Romeo high-powered models expected to be powered by electricity, the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which is still on sale may be the last opportunity to own a piece of the legacy of legendary racing triumphs and rich history propelled forward by fossil fuel.
